About Cedar Spiral Designs

Founded by Elise Abrams-Ogg

I began Cedar Spiral Designs while attending Algonquin College Perth for Heritage Carpentry and Joinery in 2020, where I first encountered the tradition of cutting decorative designs into cedar shingles and began experimenting with the technique. In 2021, I co-founded the Perkolator Creative Collective in Perth, Ontario with a group of fellow carpentry graduates, local artisans, and musicians. Today, I work out of this studio space where each of my cedar shingle mosaics is designed and cut by hand with a scroll saw.

About Cedar Shingle Mosaics

Cedar shingle mosaics embellish the look of traditional cedar shingle siding while maintaining the material's ability to shed water and act as a functional siding or roofing material. In all of my pieces, proper lapping of shingles in ensured to make each design suitable for exterior installation, either as a framed panel, or woven directly into a building's wall cladding or roofing.

I work primarily with locally milled eastern white cedar shingles, but can work with western red cedar upon request.
